Coastal and high water table

Coastal and low-lying jurisdictions sometimes specify shorter SHWT separation (12 inches) or longer drawdown allowances. Chesapeake, VA (chesapeake-va) lists 12-inch SHWT separation with 48-hour drawdown; Raleigh, NC (raleigh-nc) and New Jersey proxy (nj-state) show 12-inch separation; Maine (maine-manual) also lists 12 inches. Conversely, Bellevue and western Washington (bellevue-wa, wa-state-western) require 60-inch separation. Mississippi (ms-state-vol2) allows up to 120-hour drawdown. High water table and tidal influence drive wide separation range (12–120 in.) in the matrix.

Karst and vulnerable groundwater

Karst-sensitive guidance in the matrix includes Texas Edwards-related separation (tx-edwards-rg348: 48-inch SHWT) and wide scatter in design infiltration rates where stated. Pennsylvania and mid-Atlantic entries often use 24-inch SHWT (pa-state, philadelphia-pa) with 72-hour drawdown. Committees in karst areas should weigh separation and infiltration testing requirements from state manuals rather than the 24-inch mode alone.

Florida (fl-fsesci-tier1) lists 4-hour drawdown versus a 72-hour mode elsewhere, highlighting protocol differences (e.g., wet detention vs infiltration framing) that Tier A extraction may not fully disaggregate. Committee discussion should flag where chapter_proxy slugs apply and where practice-specific criteria need re-scoping in source manuals.
