Water quality volume method
Parcel-based infiltration BMPs are sized to contain and infiltrate runoff from impervious surfaces for the 20-year return period, 1-hour duration design storm (approximately 1 inch in 1 hour). TRPA regulations require containment of that volume from impervious areas; the NRCS BMP Calculation Spreadsheet multiplies 20-yr/1-hr intensity by each impervious surface area. Public right-of-way BMPs use pollutant load reduction modeling tools rather than a single WQv formula.
